The Learning Collective

Raising kids who will change the world, one conversation and one connection at a time.

Dear Homeschooling Families,

We are a group of homeschooling moms excited to share our vision for a new homeschooling community in the Steinbach area.

This page outlines who we are and what we're building to help you decide if this feels like a good fit for your family. Please review the information and let us know if you're interested in joining us on this journey.

We host information nights and meet & greets where you can experience our vision firsthand, meet other families, and ask questions. Expressing interest now simply gets you invited to this event, your final decision about joining our community can be made after meeting us and seeing everything in person.

What The Learning Collective Is All About

These aren't just nice words. This is how we actually roll together, day in and day out. When you join our collective, you're not just getting access to events and activities, you're signing up for these principles because this is what makes us so special. These principles guide how we handle everything from planning family adventures to working through disagreements. They are the foundation that will help us build something real and lasting together.

  • REAL RELATIONSHIPS → We're building friendships that actually matter, not just surface-level "how's the weather" connections. The kind where someone notices you've been quiet lately and actually asks what's going on, instead of just assuming you're fine.

  • ALWAYS GROWING → Nobody's got it all figured out, and that's perfect. We're here to get better together and push each other toward our potential. Whether it's learning a new parenting approach or finally tackling that creative project, we celebrate progress over perfection.

  • RAISING LEADERS → Every kid (and parent) has something unique to contribute. We're training the next generation to be confident, capable, and strong. This means giving kids real responsibilities, teaching them to think for themselves, and showing them how to influence others positively.

  • KEEPING IT REAL → No perfect family facades here. We're authentic, honest, and supportive when life throws curveballs. Kids struggle, plans fall apart, and we all have seasons when we're barely keeping up. We've got your back through all of it.

  • EVERYONE BRINGS SOMETHING → Think potluck style. Everyone brings something to the table and we all get to partake in the collective community assets. Someone loves health and nutrition, someone else loves gardening, someone else loves field games. Everyone's gifts weave together to create a community where we all thrive.

  • DIFFERENT IS GOOD → We won't all think alike. Different perspectives on various areas will naturally arise. Let's show our kids that unity can happen with others who see things differently and that strong relationships can handle different opinions. What matters most is keeping our focus on why we're here - we all share a commitment to raising incredible children.

  • TALK IT OUT → Drama doesn't fly here. We handle conflict like adults and teach our kids to do the same. When issues come up, we address them directly, kindly, and quickly instead of letting things fester or gossiping behind backs. This commitment to healthy conflict resolution isn't just nice to have, it's the foundation which allows authentic relationships to flourish.

The Real Investment Comparison

You're not spending too much, you're spending backwards.

Consider this perspective:
Teens who don't build these foundational skills now often need therapy for anxiety ($100+/session), marriage counseling for relationship struggles ($100+/session), and thousands wasted on post-secondary education when they don't know their purpose. Plus the emotional cost of watching them struggle.

Most activities you're currently paying for expire when they graduate, but this investment compounds for 70+ years and will have a lasting effect on future generations.

Character education: the one investment that prevents the most expensive problems.

Hi, I’m Tash.

I’m the founder of The Learning Collective homeschooling community and Inner Strength Training Academy. I'm also a wife and mom of four - two graduated, two teens still learning at home.

12 years ago, I chose to homeschool to focus on the communication and leadership skills that schools often miss. That decision led me to partner with local homeschool moms to create The Learning Collective. Together, we pool our resources to provide opportunities none of us could offer alone, all with the shared goal of raising the next generation to be strong, capable, caring leaders.

Through Inner Strength Training Academy, I'm passionate about helping people achieve their dreams and maximize their potential. The programs I create teach individuals how to be emotionally resilient and relationally healthy, primarily by developing their communication skills.

What really fills my cup? Meaningful conversations that dive below the surface, training jiu-jitsu alongside my kids, as well as quadding, camping, hiking, or curling up with a good non-fiction book.

You Have Questions. We Have Answers.

  • The name says it all, we are a collective of families learning and growing together.

No one has all the answers and that's the beauty of it. Everyone brings unique strengths and experiences to the table, and together we create something bigger than what any of us could achieve alone.

We are all learning; how to be better parents, how to raise resilient kids, and how to become the best versions of ourselves while building stronger relationships. That's what this collective is all about.

  • For the Drop In Program we aim for class sizes between 8-15. Ideally having 3 classes separating students into three groups:
    Grades K-4
    Grades 5-8
    Grades 9-12

We wont limit the High School Hub unless we have an overwhelming response and outgrow our space.

Family Community: We don't have limits on memberships. However, to ensure a high-quality experience for all families, we may temporarily pause new enrollments once we reach 150 families. This allows us to assess our growth, make necessary adjustments, and maintain smooth operations before welcoming new families.

  • The Drop In Day Program focuses on character and leadership development as students work on their preferred educational curriculum.

Technically we are not a school, but we support homeschooling familes in their educational endeavours.

  • Parents are absolutely welcome to stay, space permitting. We treasure our parent volunteers and the richness they bring to our learning environment.

  • We are hoping to secure a rental property on an acreage just outside of Mitchell; a spacious home with a mature yard, large play structure, and versatile shop space that gives us lots of flexibility.

If that doesn't work out, we have a backup location 12 minutes east of Steinbach, generously offered by one of our members.

We are also open to other options from community members who might have suitable space.

If you have a usable space, please text Tash at 204-408-5760.

  • Every parent has the same 24 hours, but successful families prioritize what matters most. If your child needed surgery, you'd clear your entire schedule. Character development is preventive surgery for their future.

    Priorities matter more than schedules.

When you invest in character first, everything else becomes easier, better grades, healthier relationships, clearer decisions.

It's not about adding more to your plate; it's about putting the most important thing first.

  • Drop-In Day Program: We are currently considering several teachers for our Drop In Day Program and are actively accepting applications for additional teaching staff. We are committed to finding the best fit for our community, teachers who align with our mission and values.

If you know someone who might be interested, have them contact Alicia at 204-371-2787 or have them email their resume to reimer.alicia@gmail.com.

High School Hub: Tash will be teaching from her proprietary program Inner-Strength Training Academy.

Family Community: Events and classes are hosted by families within the community, with parents sharing their skills, expertise, and passions with other families.

  • You may contact Tash at 204-408-5760
