Welcome to The Village
Where Southern Manitoba families collaborate to raise the leaders of tomorrow.
Our Mission
To bring together homeschooling families for support, encouragement, and collaboration, pooling resources to create opportunities none of us could offer alone, all with the goal of raising the next generation to be strong, capable, caring leaders.
What is The Village?
It's a social club for homeschooling families
Think of The Village like a potluck where everyone brings something to the party, and you get to feast on the abundance of what everyone else brings too. It's about shared adventures and collective joy.
When we pool our resources together, we build something incredible for our children that no single family could create alone. Picture families becoming allies, kids forming lifelong friendships, and discovering you're stronger together than you ever imagined possible.
Many hands make work light
We're families joining forces to create adventures and experiences that become so much richer when we do them together. Think bigger, think bolder, think way more fun.
Picture this: monthly gatherings buzzing with kids, teens, and moms connecting, quarterly family potlucks filled with laughter, couples events where parents actually get to finish conversations, plus seasonal adventures like park days, skating parties, bonfires, and BBQs.
Welcome to Something Special
You've stumbled upon something special. This is your behind-the-scenes look at how our unique potluck-style homeschooling community works and whether our approach feels right for your family.
Quick heads up: Since the school year is quickly approaching, we are combining our Information Night and Planning Meeting into one power-packed evening. You are invited... just complete the membership form first.
If this sounds like your family's kind of place, we'd love to get to know you through our membership form. Feel free to come to the meeting and see how we click together, no pressure to commit until you are sure that we are a great match. Once you are ready to officially join, we will approve your application and you can take care of the membership fee at the planning meeting or whenever works for you.

How It Works
Upon membership, we assess each family's gifts, skillsets, interests and assets to help everyone find areas that organically align with how they wish to contribute.
Then comes the fun part… we host a Planning Meeting where parents gather to dream up the upcoming year together. Want more outdoor adventures? Someone will step up. Missing hands-on learning? Another parent has ideas.
This is where we build out a calendar of events based on what YOU actually want for your children.
For Example…
Just so you know... after the planning meeting, we celebrate with a epic community potluck to get to know everyone, plus we’ll have our first moms night, you'll be amazed at how friendships bloom and deepen through these connections.
Then we dive into the fun-filled year we've planned.
Our Foundation
When you join The Village, you're not just getting access to events and activities, you're becoming part of a community built on these principles.
Please be sure your family aligns with these values as they guide everything we do, from planning adventures to working through disagreements. They are the foundation that helps us build something real and lasting.
-
We're building friendships that actually matter, not just surface-level "how's the weather" connections. The kind where someone notices you've been quiet lately and actually asks what's going on, instead of just assuming you're fine.
-
Nobody's got it all figured out, and that's perfect. We're here to get better together and push each other toward our potential. Whether it's learning a new parenting approach or finally tackling that creative project, we celebrate progress over perfection.
-
Every kid (and parent) has something unique to contribute. We're training the next generation to be confident, capable, and strong. This means giving kids real responsibilities, teaching them to think for themselves, and showing them how to influence others positively.
-
No perfect family facades here. We're authentic, honest, and supportive when life throws curveballs. Kids struggle, plans fall apart, and we all have seasons when we're barely keeping up. We've got your back through all of it.
-
We won't all think alike. Different perspectives on various areas will naturally arise. Let's show our kids that unity can happen with others who see things differently and that strong relationships can handle different opinions. What matters most is keeping our focus on why we're here, we all share a commitment to raising incredible children.
-
Drama doesn't fly here. We handle conflict like adults and teach our kids to do the same. When issues come up, we address them directly, kindly, and quickly instead of letting things fester or gossiping behind backs. This commitment to healthy conflict resolution isn't just nice to have, it's the foundation which allows authentic relationships to flourish.

You Have Questions. We Have Answers.

Most homeschool communities focus on socializing, which works great when kids are little. But as they grow, they crave meaningful conversations and challenges alongside their friends.
We also include the whole family, not just kids playing while parents remain acquaintances.
Through regular events like moms' nights, we foster deep, ongoing relationships that extend beyond just the children. -
We are a community without walls. We operate out of the homes, yards, barns, and garages of our members, wherever families open their doors and hearts to host gatherings.
The community is based out of Steinbach, Manitoba, but our members live throughout Steinbach's surrounding areas, which means our events and activities happen all across the region.
We also embrace public spaces like parks, verandas, skating rinks, and other community venues. This gives us incredible flexibility to create diverse experiences while keeping costs low and connections strong.

I'm Tash, wife and mom of four, and founder of The Learning Collective.
12 years ago, I chose to homeschool to focus on communication and leadership skills that schools often miss, because let's be honest, life skills matter more than memorizing the periodic table. My two oldest are graduated and I have two teens I'm still schooling.
Over the past 10 years, I've had the privilege of running various communities, learning what makes groups thrive and how to bring out the best in people when they come together. Spoiler alert: it usually involves good snacks and genuine connection.
What really fills my cup? Meaningful conversations that dive below the surface, training jiu-jitsu alongside my kids, quadding beautiful trails, camping under the stars, hiking until we're properly exhausted, or curling up with a good non-fiction book that changes how I see the world.
After years of seeing how powerful community can be, I knew I had to create The Village, a place where families could come together with intention to support each other through this incredible homeschooling adventure.

Communities may look similar on the surface, but it's the foundation they're built on that makes all the difference.
We have fun activities and engaging events, but at our core, we exist to strengthen individuals, families, and students.
We weave personal growth lessons on character and leadership into our monthly events using curriculum from the Inner-Strength Training Academy.

Our community is built on Biblical principles that we hold dear.
We expect all families to respect this foundation, with the understanding that what truly unites us is our shared commitment to raising strong, capable kids and supporting each other.
-
Getting to know new people can feel daunting, but give it time, relationships don't develop overnight.
We are gathering for a reason, so trust the process and let genuine connections unfold naturally.
-
Everyone brings something valuable, your enthusiasm, willingness to help, or unique perspective matters.
For every event, someone leads but we always need extra hands and eyes to make things happen smoothly.
We also recognize different seasons of life, like when you have a newborn, and adjust expectations accordingly.
-
There's no minimum attendance required for community events. Attend what works for your family.
We do ask for about one volunteer hour per month, per child (so two kids = two hours).
The more families we have, the lighter this becomes for everyone.
We also understand that life has seasons (new babies, big moves, challenging times) just communicate with another member to help cover when needed.
-
No worries. We will connect with you afterward to see how your family wants to be involved and catch you up on the year's plans.
